Lucent Arcana Photography

Lucent Arcana Photography is the successor to my 30-year leathercraft business, Sign of the Hawk. I've had a lifelong interest in photography, starting with my dad's Minolta film camera in the 1970s, but my first digital camera (an early 2000s model Kodak) opened the door for me to take my first really good landscape pictures. I enjoyed photography as a hobby alongside my leathercraft for many years. When the Pandemic happened, it gave me an opportunity to retire from leathercraft and devote myself to photography full time.
I've used a variety of cameras over the years, but truly I am an artist first and a technician second... I 'paint' with my photography and seldom concern myself too much with details of how to take a 'perfect' picture. I don't use photoshop or AI. I call what I do 'Natural Photography' -- not just pictures of natural scenes, but pictures which are as they were, with minimal editing. My current best kayaking and cycling companions are (respectively) my Olympus TG-6 waterproof camera and my Nikon P520 with its 48x optical zoom!

Lucent Arcana is Latin for 'Mysteries of Light', which I think is the best description of what I capture with my art. Currently I do all my own printing and framing in my home workshop in Newport.

While I have pictures from anywhere I have happened to visit, Yachats is one of my favorite places in the world, and I take great joy in presenting images of the beauty I have seen here. My hope is that others also take joy in them and find them an aid to memory of their visit to this beautiful place on the Oregon Coast.
